Professor Geetha Balakrishnan, University of Warwick, will be presenting a seminar on her research. All are welcome to attend.
To make headway in understanding the physics of materials, high quality single crystals are essential. In this talk, I will present an overview of the investigations at Warwick on single crystals of various superconducting and frustrated magnetic materials obtained by the floating zone technique using optical furnaces. I will also describe the study of crystals of some superconductors, Topological Insulators and Skyrmionic materials produced by other techniques. Recent advancements made in the production and study of some crystals of 2-D layered materials as well as nanomaterials of some Topological Insulators will also be presented.
