EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training
Academics from across the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences play key roles in the following EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs).
Bragg Centre for Materials Research
The Bragg Centre for Materials Research will enable the discovery, creation, characterisation and exploitation of materials engineered at the atomic level.
The Centre acts as a focus for research across campus, bringing together the University’s strengths in III-V semiconductors, optoelectronics, and high frequency devices, crystallisation and materials chemistry, functional oxides and glasses, ferroelectric, magnetic and spintronic materials, bionanotechnology, soft condensed matter systems, and functional surfaces and corrosion.
It is supported by our £96million investment in engineering and physical sciences, the Sir William Henry Bragg building.
Research Excellence Framework 2014
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), the impact of research carried out in all schools within the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences was rated as either ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
Our high research ratings enable us to continue to recruit the best research staff and students, invest in our facilities and continue to build links with industry and research partners in the UK and overseas.
We have strong collaborative links with a wide range of interdisciplinary research groups and themes.
