The food industry is rapidly growing on a global scale. There is an international need for graduates who understand food chemistry, production, processing and storage, as well as the effects that food and diet have on our bodies and health. As a food science or nutrition graduate you could go on to work in manufacturing, nutritional therapy, quality assurance, product development or research.

Our reputation

We have an established reputation for delivering high-quality research and teaching. We’re 1st in the UK for Food Science and Nutrition according to all of the major UK league tables. We achieved 94% overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2019.

Research-based degrees

We have an active research environment which enables us to offer exciting courses taught by experts who are leaders in their fields. You’ll be directly engaged in research through individual and team-based project work – giving you access to our specialist facilities.

Flexible degrees

Our undergraduate degrees share a common first year, allowing you the freedom to transfer between courses up until you start your second year. You have the option of undertaking a year in industry or spending a year studying abroad.

Industry-relevant courses

Our Industrial Advisory Board helps ensure our courses are up-to-date with modern practices and techniques and reflect the latest developments in industry. Our Board includes representatives from companies such as Kellogg's, Marks and Spencer, and The Kraft Heinz Company.

Exceptional student support

You’ll be guided through your course by your personal tutor who’ll provide academic and pastoral support. Our student support team is based within our School and helps with anything from academic advice to timetabling and project submission enquiries. You’ll be supported in finding placements and graduate jobs by our School’s dedicated Employability Officer and Faculty Employability Team.

Rewarding careers

Over 96% of our recent graduates have secured a professional or managerial role or are engaged in further study within six months of graduating (latest Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey). Recent graduate destinations include Mondelez International, Premier Foods and Fox’s Biscuits.
