Leeds-SUSTech Split-Site PhD Programme

China UK PhD

Funding opportunity: 4-year PhD studentships

Based on mutual research interests, the University of Leeds has established a partnership with the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, China. As part of this collaboration, 4-year studentships are available, supporting joint research projects though a Split-Site PhD Programme. Students registered on this programme will be funded to undertake research both at Leeds and SUSTech.

Research Topics in Mathematics

  • Finite primitive permutation groups with few orbits on pairs
  • Flows and dynamos driven by libration, precession and tides
  • Numerical Methods for Shallow Water Magnetohydrodynamics
  • Orbit-equivalent infinite permutation groups
  • Portfolio optimization with various risk constraints
  • Return time statistics and rates of mixing for linked twist maps
  • Ruin and related problems for two-dimensional risk process
  • Spatiotemporal behavior of systems with chemical feedback
  • Spiral waves in the Rock-Paper-Scissors model

Research topics in the following disciplinary areas are also available within the programme: Chemical & Process EngineeringChemistryComputingElectronic & Electrical EngineeringEnvironment, Geography, Physics & Astronomy

Entry requirements

To be considered for funding under this programme, you’ll need to meet Leeds’ minimum entry requirements for Split-Site research degrees. You should have, or expect to obtain the equivalent of a UK upper second class honours degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline. If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that you have English language proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 (with no component below 6.0) or an equivalent English language qualification.

Programme structure
