Hands-on learning

students in the undergraduate lab

Our courses are designed to give you many opportunities for hands-on learning. This engaging style of teaching allows you to make connections between what you’re learning and real-life problems, preparing you for working in industry.

All of our physics courses allow you to benefit from hands-on learning at every stage of the course. This ethos is embedded within both the compulsory and optional modules of our Physics and Physics with Astrophysics courses. Our Theoretical Physics courses allow you to develop an appreciation of how theory informs experimentation and give you opportunities to do practical work throughout the course, if this appeals to you.

An independent research project forms a significant part of the final year of all of our physics courses. Your project gives you the chance to work with one of our internationally-renowned research groups.
