Natural Sciences

Natural Sciences allows you to design your degree to suit your career aspirations and interests and maintain a breadth of scientific subjects. You'll study multiple sciences and explore the links between them, using an interdisciplinary approach. You'll develop the ability to look at problems from different perspectives and bring together the ideas of multiple subjects, which is highly valued in industry and academia.

Natural Sciences MNatSc, BSc

Subjects available on the Natural Sciences degree are biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, food science and nutrition, mathematics and physics. You’ll study a combination of 3 subjects in your first year and gradually come to specialise in 2 disciplines.

Our expertise

Our Natural Sciences programme is delivered by world-leading scientists from academic Schools across the University that have a strong interdisciplinary ethos.

The University of Leeds is continually investing to provide exceptional environments that enable researchers from different subject areas to work together. Our international centres for collaboration – the Astbury Centre, the Priestley International Centre for Climate and the forthcoming £96m international centre for engineering and physical sciences – bring researchers from multiple disciplines together to tackle global challenges.

Flexible degree

This course is extremely flexible, allowing you to combine 3 subjects into a degree that is shaped by your career aspirations and interests. At every stage of the course you’ll be able to decide how much time you dedicate to each subject. You also have the opportunity to undertake a year in industry or spend a year abroad.

Research-led teaching

You’ll be directly engaged in research through individual and team-based project work – giving you access to our specialist facilities. As well as becoming an expert in the individual subjects you choose to make up your course, you’ll develop an appreciation and understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of modern science from researchers working across the traditional scientific boundaries.

Industry-relevant content

Our Industrial Advisory Committee helps ensure our courses are up-to-date with modern practices and techniques and reflect the latest developments in science and industry.

Exceptional student support

You’ll be guided through your course by your academic tutors and your personal tutor will provide pastoral support.
