Our free online courses, delivered via FutureLearn, introduce a range of topics in chemistry. They offer an accessible way to prepare for degree-level study, or simply to expand your knowledge for personal or professional reasons.

Discovering Science

Discover the fascinating world of everyday chemistry with this program of five online courses. Covering Science Writing, Medicinal Chemistry, Global Challenges, Chemical Products and Atmospheric Chemistry and followed by a final assessment, this program provides a flexible way to explore a range of chemistry topics while continuing your professional development. Successful completion of all the five courses plus the assessment course may lead to the award of 10 credits from the University of Leeds.

Exploring Cancer Medicines

This course will introduce you to the principles of cancer chemotherapy, and how the development of effective medications for the treatment of cancer remains a significant challenge to scientists. It will allow you to research the use and development of cancer medicines, focussing on chemotherapy. In addition, through an exploration of how science is communicated to the general public, you will also look at the skills you need to become an effective science writer.

No previous knowledge is required, but having an interest in exploring science and science writing will be beneficial to learners.
