Project descriptionGlobally, cancer and cardiometabolic diseases are the leading cause of death. These diseases are linked to a person’s age, genetics, and lifestyle habits, such as diet and exercise. Evidence suggests that a large majority of cases could be prevented if a healthier lifestyle were followed. However, finding the link between lifestyle and disease is complex and influenced by our genes. Excitingly, important links between our genes and how we metabolise food have been uncovered that allow us to re-examine the shared role of genetics and diet on the development of diseases. In this research group, we examine (i) how genes effect metabolism and risk of diseases; and (ii) if diets can modify this risk .
Applications are invited from candidates with or expecting a minimum of a UK upper second class honours degree (2:1), and/or a Master's degree in a relevant science subject such as (but not limited to) food science, nutrition, molecular biology, and genomics.
If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that you meet the University's minimum English Language requirements.
