What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?
Studying at a university with a designated School of Food Science and Nutrition is one of the best aspects of studying here. I think the facilities and laboratory are easily accessed and well equipped for the food science students.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?
We had a project in year two, which is to conduct qualitative analysis on the nutrients for a chosen food product. It was fun as we were able to test to find out if the nutrients labelled on the packaging were scientifically accurate. Meanwhile, it was challenging to find out how various analysis methods are catered to different type of food nutrients.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is a lively city with a great nightlife city. There are on-going events almost every week that you can attend with friends. During holidays like Christmas, there will be Christmas market and carnivals set up in the city centre. It is also close to other cities like Manchester or Bradford, where students can have a day trips out of the Leeds.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I look forward to working with the development team in a food company. It is challenging to be able to work on existing or new recipes to improve or create food products.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
There are many volunteering opportunities available in Leeds. These events help me to develop my personal strengths like teamwork and communications, which is essential for a future career. Besides, University of Leeds provides career services and advice after graduation, which I think that is important for newly graduated students.
